Wire Project
For my wire project, I wanted to make headphones. They're based off of a pair I have from when I was a kid. I couldn't use my current pair because they're earphones and don't have enough structure. This project didn't turn out exactly how I imagined it just because the wire was able to shift randomly and it was hard to keep track of what was moving and had to be fixed. The parts that would cover your ears are a bit shifted because of this, but it didn't mess up the overall form.
Concrete Project
This project was the most frustrating project we did in the class. I had originally intended for the outside to have a texture like tree bark, but the concrete was much more difficult to work with than I expected. I had to change my ideas while working on it. I had also planned on putting the candle on top of the concrete but changed that to put it inside, but that was after taking it out of the mold. If I had planned before, I could have created the hole in the mold, but instead I had to use a hammer and chisel to make it. I should have spent more time planning my ideas out before starting.
Mask
The mask I made for this had a lot of different idea put together. I had a lot of fun designing this because I was able to use multiple ideas and it just made my mask look more unique, not too busy or distracting. I do wish I had put more into the other sides other than the front, but I think it still works fine. I also wish I had put more colors around the sides, but that went against my idea. I wanted to use a color that I hadn't put on the front already, but would also go with the front. I thought about using orange, but it looked to similar to the front. Plus a bright color like that would have brought attention away from the front. I think the purple color turned out very well, and it has the effect I wanted.
3D Computer Project
This project with a very new experience for me. I'd never used anything like these programs, but I had a lot of fun learning how to use them. I wanted to make simple designs, but I definitely took the swiss cheese further and kind of abstracted it. That was the most difficult part of the project because it took a lot of control in the program, but it did help me understand how to use the program better.
Wood Project
Making a sword for this project was an idea that wouldn't leave my head. I tried to think of other things I could make, but I love swords and ended up sticking with this idea. I had planned on making a wooden toy sword because I had an idea of what that looked like and I wasn't sure how to make it more realistic. I decided it needed to be more than just a wooden toy sword, so I used spray paint and graphite over the whole thing. I really like the effect this had on it. I also used a fake leather over the handle because it felt more natural for that to be there than just plain wood.
Final Project
I really enjoyed making this project. I saw that we were supposed to make this a sort of self project. I wanted to do another thing with wood because it was the material I felt most comfortable with after having just finished the other wood project. The idea that I got was that people are like a wooden box that's plain on the outside, and that holds everything on the inside. When you see a person, you just see the outside, and it just looks like a person, same as every other person. On the inside a person holds things that are important uniquely to that person. The idea I got from that is that the things that are really important to us are constantly changing, but other things last forever. The things that last forever are the things that other people have said about us, the negative things we've heard about ourselves, especially our own families. Even if they weren't meant to have that effect, they don't leave us. So I carved those into the inside of the box is a messy way. Around those , smaller and written in pencil, I wrote some of the things that have impacted my life, whether it's people I know, places I've been, or things I do. I wrote them in pencil to show that they can can erased and rewritten, since they change over time.
